What the study found
Greenness and ALS risk followed a U-shape: odds were higher at both low and high greenness and lowest at intermediate levels. The pattern was clearest with NDVI-based indices and held after adjusting for magnetic fields and light at night.
Limitations
Possible unmeasured confounding and exposure misclassification from residential addresses. High greenness in this region may track agricultural land and pesticide exposure rather than green space itself.
Neurodesign interpretation
Most nature-health studies in the corpus imply a line that only goes up. Here the high end carries risk again, most likely because 'green' in rural northern Italy often means sprayed fields. The index measures vegetation, not the kind of nature a designer means.
Possible design implications
Do not write greenness claims as monotonic. What the green is (park, farmland, forest) and what comes with it matters more than the satellite index.
