NEURODESIGN® · CORPUS · 15 known gaps

What the corpus is missing

A research library that only records what it has found will drift into a confirmation engine. This page is the other half of the ledger: the places where the evidence is thin, the populations that get averaged away, and the searches that have not been run yet.

If you work on any of these, or know work that would close one, that is more useful to this project than agreement. Write in.

Known gaps

  1. Long-duration exposure

Very high priority · Exposure duration

Short lab exposures dominate many sensory and cognitive literatures

next action:Search hours, days, longitudinal occupancy and adaptation studies

  2. Hospitality environments

Very high priority · Applied domain

Hotels combine sleep, restoration, multisensory experience and service context but are underrepresented as a distinct evidence domain

next action:Build hotel, resort, guest-room and hospitality-wellness subcorpus

  3. Sleep-supportive architecture

    Very high priority · Integration

Sleep research is often exposure-specific rather than spatially integrated

next action:Combine thermal, air, acoustic, light and bed-microclimate evidence

  4. Neurodiversity

    Very high priority · Population

Sensory response is often treated as population-average

next action:Search autism, ADHD, sensory processing, migraine and sensory sensitivity by environmental variable

  5. Combined exposures

    Very high priority · Integration

Real spaces expose people to light, air, thermal, acoustic and visual conditions simultaneously

next action:Prioritize factorial, multimodal and real-building studies

  6. Real environments versus VR

    High priority · Methodological

Many neuroarchitecture studies use images or VR; real-space replication is thinner

next action:Run parallel search for field experiments and real-room crossover studies

  7. Children + aging

    High priority · Population

Developmental and age-related differences can change sensory and spatial response

next action:Create lifespan tags and targeted searches

  8. Cross-cultural response

High priority · Population / culture

Preference and environmental interpretation can vary by cultural context

next action:Tag study geography and search replication across cultures

  9. Materials beyond wood

    High priority · Materials

Wood has a growing evidence base; stone, clay, metal, textile and composite research is far thinner

next action:Search material perception, haptics, thermal touch and associative meaning

  10. Olfaction in built settings

    High priority · Multisensory

Olfaction has strong memory and affect mechanisms but fewer architectural field studies

next action:Separate mechanism literature from applied environmental scent research

  11. Social neuroarchitecture

    High priority · Social

Layout changes encounter, gaze, privacy and social behavior, but neural evidence is still sparse

next action:Search social neuroscience with proxemics, visibility and spatial layout

  12. Null results + publication bias

    High priority · Evidence quality

A corpus built only from positive design findings will overstate effects

next action:Search null effects, replications, registered reports and meta-analytic heterogeneity

  13. Dose and thresholds

    High priority · Measurement

Many design claims ignore how much exposure is needed

next action:Extract dose, duration, intensity and response curve wherever available

  14. Behavior beyond preference

    High priority · Outcome

Preference is common, but behavior, learning, sleep, error, social interaction and health matter more for practice

next action:Prioritize objective behavioral and physiological outcomes

  15. Individual control

    High priority · Moderator

Environmental control can modify response to the same physical exposure

next action:Tag operability, choice, personalization and adaptive opportunity

Controlled terms with no source yet

The taxonomy declares what the corpus intends to cover. These 8 terms are defined and indexed but carry nothing yet, which makes each one a specific, findable piece of missing work rather than a vague absence.
